Hey there Gang… sorry for the Blog post delay this month.  We have been nose to the grindstone at the Cabin getting ready for Spring Quilt Market in Salt Lake City, UT next week, launching a brand new eCommerce website and a new 16 page catalog for Spring.  WOW!!! Makes me tired just thinking about it.  Be sure sure to read all the way to the end of the post as we are giving away some freebies (including a FREE pattern) and I don’t want you to miss out.

This month I had the pleasure of working with Susan Emory of Swirly Girls on her Little Lovely series.  Susan is running her FREE pattern series all year long with designs from her studio as well as some other guest designers.  Yours truly is the designer behind the May Little Lovely Lola.  Both Susan and I are giving away prizes on our blogs for little items to go with your Little Lovely free pattern so be sure to leave a comment on my blog for a chance to win… and head on over to Susan’s Blog to see her version, download the pattern and leave a comment there for a chance to win her giveaway as well.

I was trying so hard to think of a cute little design for May… and here in Virginia May sure has been all about the rain.  In fact, the thunderstorms caused our power to go out a couple of times for the afternoon/evening hours.  Sure makes a girl long for the sun… and some power and light to finish some projects.  You know what they say… April showers bring May flowers.  So my Little Lovely Lola is all about the flowers and a little reminder to have patience with Mother Nature in these “dark days.”

So here is the design that I came up with.  I had a great time making this little diddy.  I got to use my Petal Pal keychain template of the leaves and some fun and funky rick rack for the stem.  It was also fun to get the needle out and practice my embroidery stitches for a change.  I dug into some of my modern fabric lines to pick out some of the brightest fabrics I could find to brighten the mood around the Cabin.  It’s been a little dark around here for far too long.  Another unfortunate side effect of all this rain… bad lighting for photos. I was able to snap a few photos from inside the cottage.

She is super cute with the bright red and orange fabrics.

A little doodle quilting … zig zag stitching on the rick rack stem and some veins on the leaves.

Not too shabby on my embroidery stitching.  It’s like riding a bike I guess.
