Anyone who knows me knows I am swimming in scraps and I am always looking for creative ways to use up what I already have… so I can buy more fabric of course, or make room for what I know is coming into the studio.

So this upcoming year I am starting a MONTHLY SCRAP CHALLENGE for me and you as well. Here are the rules that I set for myself for this challenge throughout the year.

My Monthly Challenge Rules

  • USE SCRAPS whenever possible to challenge yourself
  • Make something decorative or a gift to share for the season.
  • Utilize your Keychain templates for easy shapes.
  • Create a FREE PATTERN to share.
  • Try to use a new technique or a favorite technique from your QUILTER’S TOOLBOX.

Of course, you will need plenty of time to complete your project if you plan to use it as a gift… so I guess we should get started a few weeks in advance. Christmas is right around the corner and this would be a perfect time to get cracking on a last-minute gift or two.

Thoughts on what to make…

Initially, I wanted to make Mug Rugs for the seasons. But I realized that I could easily put together a common set of projects that you can use as a jumping point for your own creativity each month. Of course, I will try to be consistent but if a creative idea comes to mind I might change things up a bit.

Check out my video here on my thoughts for projects during the next year’s challenge and all the info not typed here.

Common Project Sizes

Or the 18″ x 14″ large tabletop stand or placemat. There may be a different project if the inspiration arises.

When Does the Challenge Begin?

Look for our first installment within the week. We will post the first video and free pattern download to create your own SCRAPPY gift. I have lots of tips planned for the December project. I might even have some other ideas on what to do with your scraps for the holidays.

Also, I have been challenged to BLOG every day during the month of December this year. I will be doing my best to make that goal. So if you are looking for the My Scrappy Gift challenge videos and blog posts and can’t find them… hop on over to our VIDEOS page and the videos will be posted in the SPECIAL EVENTS section. We will also be adding a TUTORIALS page to the website as soon as possible so you can quickly reference what you are looking for.

I can’t wait for the challenge to start. It’s Thanksgiving week here at the Cabin and my mom and I are buried in the studio cooking up some interesting goodies.

In the meantime, I want to wish you and your loved ones a happy and healthy Holiday Season and Happy Thanksgiving to all of my US peeps.

HAPPY QUILTING!
